L’exposition « USE » présente les dernières œuvres d’Anna Nero : peintures et céramiques aux couleurs audacieuses et aux formes charnues. 

Anna Nero s’engage ici à dévoiler les fonctionnements ambivalents de nos relations modernes. Dans ses peintures, objets stylisés et différents espaces jouent à leur manière avec nos émotions. Des arrière-plans dynamiques et traités comme des surfaces lisses accueillent des artefacts aux formes rondes qui semblent avoir été placés là pour être utilisés ou, du moins, pour suggérer des pensées ludiques voire lubriques. Grâce à leurs formes singulières et leurs textures brillantes, ils séduisent et savent tisser subrepticement le fil rouge qui mène à l’excitation jusqu’à parfois déclencher le « coup de foudre ». 

Voyez plutôt cette sorte de phallus bleu érigé sur une étoffe rouge brillante et métallique qui pend mollement au-dessus d’une solide structure verte…Une scène qui pourrait peut-être nous rappeler un plaisir intime et solitaire. Flirtant d’avant en arrière dans une mystérieuse ambiance de voyeurisme, ces objets oscillent entre fonds géométriques et lumières surréalistes aux nuances mélancoliques. 

Tout est frivole pour Anna Nero, comme si ces objets jouaient malicieusement avec leurs propres règles et possédaient leur propre bande passante. Ils induisent une pulsion sensuelle qui nous incite à être leurs prisonniers et, lorsque le désir arrive à son paroxysme, nous n’avons le choix qu’entre domination ou soumission. Cependant, rien ne prouve qu’ils aient une réelle utilité et c’est à nous de prendre la bonne décision. Pour Anna Nero, c’est la forme elle-même qui dicte notre action finale, celle de faire partie ou non du jeu. 

Dans ses œuvres, Anna Nero rejoue les pratiques de nos relations modernes telles que le Ghosting, le Breadcrumbing, le Love-Bombing et même le Bad-Sex-Dating – toutes pouvant être les rebus et secrets les plus sombres de nos histoires romantiques et interpersonnelles que l’artiste aime à exposer d’une manière très humoristique et directe.

The exhibition « USE » shows Anna Nero’s latest works: paintings and ceramics with bold colors and chubby shapes.

Anna Nero commits to unveil the ambivalent features of modern relationships. In her abstract paintings, stylized 2D objects and different layouts play with emotions. The dynamic backgrounds treated as smooth surfaces receive the round shapes’ artefacts that seems to have been placed intentionally there to be used or, at least, to suggest playful and lecherous thoughts. Through their peculiar forms and shiny textures, they seduce then build up surreptitiously the red thread that leads to excitation and can even be the trigger of a feeling of “love at first sight”.

Look at this kind of blue phallus erected on a glossy and metallic red scarf that dangles lazily above a solid green structure… A scene that might remind us of some intimate and solitary pleasure. Flirting back and forth within a mysterious atmosphere of voyeurism, these objects swing between geometric backgrounds and surreal shades of light that feel somehow melancholic.

Everything remains frivolous for Anna Nero, as if these objects were playing maliciously by their own rules and were having their own bandwidth. They induce a sexy urge that incite us to become their prisoners, and when the desire comes to its climax, we have the choice between domination and submission. However, there is no proof that they are for use and it is up to us to make the right call. For Anna Nero, the form itself dictates our final decision, to be ‘in’ or ‘out’ of the game.

Anna Nero replays the symptoms and practices of our modern relationships such as Ghosting, Breadcrumbing, Love-Bombing and even, Bad-Sex-Dating – all of them being our darker remains and secrets of our romantic and interpersonal relationships that the artist likes very much to expose in a humoristic and direct way.

Anna Nero (* 1988 in Moscow) grew up in Frankfurt/Main. She studied Fine Arts with Prof. Anne Berning at the Art Academy in Mainz (2009) and completed her master’s degree in Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig with Prof. Heribert C. Ottersbach (2017). She lives and works in Frankfurt/Main.

Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally in several institutions, galleries, offspaces and at art fairs, e.g. Hamburger Deichtorhallen, Kunstmuseum Bonn, Museum Wiesbaden, Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz, Kunst- und Kulturstiftung Opelvillen, Kunsthalle G2, Kunsthalle Bozen, Kunstraum Ortloff, Bistro 21, Museum Folkwang, Kunsthalle Erfurt, Frauenmuseum Wiesbaden, Basis Projektraum Frankfurt, MOM Artspace Hamburg, The Window Paris, Myanm/art (Yangon, Myanmar). In 2022, Anna Nero will have a solo exhibition in the Museum of Fine Arts as part of the “CONNECT Leipzig” series.

Anna Nero has received international prizes and grants, such as from Stiftung KUNSTFONDS (2020) or Stiftung ZURÜCKGEBEN (2019) and had residencies in Columbus, Ohio/USA (Kulturstiftung des Freistaates Sachsen), Myanmar, Rüsselsheim (Stiftung Opelvillen) and Detroit/USA.

Furthermore, she worked as a lecturer at the Mainz Art Academy in 2019.
